How You can Improve Your Eyesight with Ayurveda

How You can Improve Your Eyesight with Ayurveda

The ancient practice of Ayurveda is widely regarded as a holistic form of treatment for various diseases. It lays deep emphasis on the practice of disease prevention to live a happier and longer life.

The gift of sight is fundamental for us to experience the world around us and our modern-day lifestyle puts us in a tricky position where we do not take care of our eyes properly and take our vision for granted.

Our eyes do not get the much-needed break they deserve and are constantly working, from the moment we get up to the moment we fall asleep.

Most of us fall prey to the common misconception that the weakening of our eyesight is a natural consequence of aging.

This fact is not always true; in fact, we can take various steps to nourish our sight. These include following a healthy diet and exercise regime, regular eye care practices, and making the correct lifestyle choices.

According to Ayurveda, extensive eye care is known as "Shalakya Tantra." These practices are primitive and easy to follow and can, to a great extent, help prevent lifestyle-related optical disorders.

Read on to find out some essential Ayurvedic remedies that will keep your eyes healthy and strong throughout your life.

Using Rosewater to calm your eyes

Rose Water

Rosewater is widely known for its soothing properties and has been long used in Ayurvedic treatments to take care of eyes because of its antiseptic and antibacterial characteristics. There are two easy ways in which you can use Rosewater to soothe your eyes.

The first is to make your own rose water eye drops. Simply take a jar bottle and add one teaspoon of honey along with three tablespoons of organic Rosewater. Use these drops one to two times daily to de-stress and relax your eyes.

Another way to use Rosewater to strengthen your eye health is by dipping them in cotton balls and placing them on the eyes. In this way, the Rosewater quickly helps soothe irritation and leaves a soothing effect on the eyes.

Integrating Triphala Eye Wash in your Routine

Triphala

Triphala is an extremely effective Ayurvedic formulation made from natural ingredients like amla, haritaki, and bibhitika.

Apart from being excellent for digestion, Triphala is a potent remedy to soothe all kinds of eye problems.

Triphala eyewash is extremely useful in treating ailments like computer strain, conjunctivitis, dry eyes, glaucoma, and cataract.

The water can be easily made at home and only requires a few simple ingredients. It's been in practice for ages, and one can notice a significant difference in their vision by incorporating it into their eye care routine.

Using Triphala water daily has proven to reduce eye strain and inflammation and is an essential practice to take care of eyes in this digital age.

Practicing Sun Salutations

Sun salutations or Surya namaskars are yogic postures that help the body move and breathe in unison. As you move from one posture to another, your "Drishti" or centered gaze aligns with every movement.

Our centered gaze is useful so that we can shift our focus from external distractions and experience a true withdrawal of senses or "pratyahara."

When we shift our focus inwards, the suryanamaskars help us physically exert and calm our bodies and our minds. When speaking about eye care, Surya namaskars relieve stress and tension from the eyes and calm the nervous system.

Yogic exercises also help control common eye conditions like myopia and hypermetropia and regulate the functioning of our optic nerves. Practicing yoga is a fantastic way to holistically take care of our vision and improve our overall health and wellness
