Benefits of Tulsi Leaves in Ayurveda

We have been worshipping the Tulsi plant since ancient times. Our sages knew about the medicinal properties of Tulsi millions of years ago.  That is why the use of the Tulsi plant is prominent in daily life.

Did you know that the Tulsi plant emits oxygen at night? Are you amazed, right?  Yes, true! But other plants do not do this. In Ayurveda, every part of the Tulsi plant is beneficial for health.

There is an explicit mention of the benefits of Tulsi in Ayurveda too. In this write-up, we will introduce you to the benefits of Tulsi. But before the advantages, let's know more about the  Tulsi plant.

What is Tulsi?


Tulsi is a medicinal plant. It is rich in vitamins and minerals. This medicinal plant has properties to remove all diseases and increase physical strength in humans.  People called it a direct goddess because no other medicine is more beneficial for humankind than this.

Due to the religious importance of Tulsi, you can find the Tulsi plant in every home in India.  There are several types of Tulsi. In which White and Krishna are famous. They are also distinguished as Ram Tulsi and Krishna Tulsi.

The Tulsi plant is usually 30 to 60 cm long, and its flowers are small. Its flowering and fruiting period is from July to October.

Tulsi seeds have flavonoids and phenolics that boost the immune system in the human body. Tulsi is rich in antioxidant properties that protect the body from damage caused by free radicals. If you chew its leaves or drink tulsi leaves tea from it, the body benefits from it. A person with solid immunity quickly fights back the diseases.

2. Relief from Cold and Cough

Tulsi does wonders in cold and cough. Although cold is a prevalent disease, it often causes a lot of trouble to people. Tusli's antispasmodic effect benefits people suffering from cold and flu. At the same time, its consumption can also provide relief in fever.

3. Get Pimple-free Skin

Pimples are very annoying for girls. They often seek relief from it and keep on taking various measures. If you are also bothered by pimples, then you can use Tusli to get pimple-free skin.  Take the powder of Tulsi leaves and orange peel and make a paste by adding rose water. Apply this paste on your face. Then leave it for around fifteen minutes and then wash it off.

There is a second method also. Take  Tulsi leaves juice and sandalwood powder and make a paste. Apply it to the face and wash it off after 15 minutes.

Tulsi leaves juice is beneficial for asthma patients.  If you start drinking the Tulsi juice regularly, then your asthma problem will start improving.  

If you sit daily by placing a posture near Tulsi, you get rid of diseases like shortness of breath and asthma.  Tulsi plants release oxygen, and it is good for the lungs.

5. Effective for irregular periods


This wonder plant has numerous health benefits. But did you know it helps in irregular periods also? Yes, it does. Regular consumption of Tulsi reduces stress, boosts your immunity, and balances the hormonal level in your body. Besides this, Tulsi is a natural antioxidant. The regular consumption of Tulsi leaves removes irregularities of the menstrual cycle.

6. Reducing weight

If one wants to lose weight, one can reap the benefits of Tulsi juice with exercise and a proper diet. One research done on rats showed that drinking 250 grams of Tulsi leaves juice twice daily for eight weeks has reduced the weight of obese rats.

Tulsi leaves juice helps control the overall body weight, BMI, and insulin in the body. The component that is reducing weight loss is still a mystery.  You can use Tusli leaves for detoxification. It will help to eliminate the toxic materials from the body.

7. Oral health

Tulsi is beneficial for your oral health also. It helps in keeping your mouth clean. Tulsi has antibacterial properties that help to cure bad breath, pyorrhea, and other gum diseases.  It protects the mouth from various types of bacterial infections.

It is also a natural mouth freshener. Thus the benefits of Tulsi juice for oral health can be seen. 

For eyes

Conjunctivitis is an eye infection that causes burning and swelling of the eyes. Tulsi leaves help to cure it. Yes, it has been mentioned in many pieces of research that its use can be relieved from conjunctivitis. However, nothing is available about how it works.

When it is about the Tusli's benefits, it also helps in keeping the heart-healthy. Tulsi is said to have cardioprotective properties. Due to these properties, Tulsi can help to keep heart disease away by keeping the heart-healthy. At the same time, Tulsi extract can also help protect against heart disease caused by stress. Therefore, the benefits of Tulsi include reducing the risk of heart disease and keeping the heart healthy.

8. Eating Tulsi reduces the risk of cancer

Along with common diseases related to the body, Tulsi can be helpful to some extent in reducing the risk of cancer. Scientists say that Tulsi has radioprotective properties, which can eliminate tumor cells growing in the body. In addition, Tusli has eugenol also, which has anti-cancer properties. 

Tulsi contains essential phytochemicals such as rosmarinic acid, apigenin, luteolin, myrtle. These may also help fight various types of cancer. Cancer is not a simple disease, and relying only on home remedies for its treatment can make it more dangerous. So, it is essential to take the proper treatment for cancer after consulting a doctor.
