According to researchers, Boswellia effectively reduces inflammation by avoiding the release of inflammation-causing compounds called leukotrienes.

In animal studies and test-tube research, Boswellia is effective as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAIDs). In addition, it has the most negligible side effects.

Studies on humans showcase that the Boswellia helps to reduce pain, improve mobility, and increases the range of movement in people with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It also helps in preventing oral infections and fighting gingivitis. 

Not just it, if taken in considerable amount then it even helps in improving digestion in people with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease and even helps in easing the breathing in people with chronic asthma.

Boswellia is a vibrant Ayurvedic spice that has anti-inflammatory properties. It helps in reducing joint pain, improve oral health and digestion. This also helps in increasing the breathing capacity in people with chronic asthma. 

Triphala

It is an Ayurvedic remedy that consists of three small medicinal fruits that are mentioned below:

  • Amla (Indian gooseberry, Scientific name: Phyllanthus Emblica)
  • Bibhitaki (Scientific name: Terminalia bellirica)
  • Haritaki (Scientific name: Terminalia chebula)

According to test-tube and animal studies, it says that Triphala has the ability to reduce inflammation caused by arthritis. Not just it, it even avoids the increase of certain types of cancer.

Triphala also functions as a natural laxative, diminishes constipation, abdominal pain, and flatulence when improving the consistency and frequency of bowel movements in people with a disturbed gut.

 Additionally, certain studies have even suggested that mouthwash contains Triphala. It helps to reduce plaque buildup, gum inflammation and avoid the growth of bacteria in the mouth.

Cumin

Who doesn't know cumin? Every food we Indian's cook has a tinge of cumin seeds in it. It is a spice native to the Mediterranean and Southwest of Asia. Cumin is made from the seeds of the Cuminum cyminum plant. It is known for its distinctive earthy, nutty and amazing spice flavors.  

The studies show that cumin is very good in boosting digestive enzyme activity, promoting the secretion of bile juice from the liver, speeds up digestion, and eases the digestion of fats. 

Researches also show that this Ayurvedic spice helps to reduce the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), like bloating and abdominal pain.

Additionally, cumin also helps to protect people who have type 2 diabetes by decreasing their blood sugar levels and improving their insulin properties. It can also help to protect your heart against severe heart-related disease by improving HDL or good cholesterol in the body by reducing triglycerides and LDL or bad cholesterol.  

Not just it, cumin possesses antimicrobial properties that help to reduce the risk of certain food-borne infections. While it is not confirmed, still studies and researches are going on to learn about its properties.  

Cumin is another Ayurvedic spice primarily used in Indian households for flavoring meals. It helps decrease the symptoms of IBS and reduces the risks of type 2 diabetes and heart-related diseases. Perhaps, it also helps in protecting against food-borne infection.

Licorice Root

This is usually found in Europe and Asia, and it originates from the Glycyrrhiza glabra plant and is one of the main ingredients in Ayurvedic medicine. 

 The test-tube and human studies say that the licorice root can help to reduce inflammation and fight viruses and bacteria. It also helps to get rid of sore throat and improve oral health by protecting the teeth and whole mouth against dental cavities and candida. 

Not just it, this spice also helps to avoid or manage heartburn, bloating, nausea, belching, and stomach ulcers. In addition, you can apply it to your skin; if you use it, it will help reduce the symptoms of skin rashes such as itching, redness, and swelling.

Nevertheless, the studies explaining or detailing these roots are very few. Thus, profound research about it needs to be done to confirm its benefits. 

Conclusively, the licorice root is an ayurvedic spice that anti-inflammatory and protects from infections and viruses. It might also help to treat digestive problems and relieve skin irritation.

Bitter Melon

According to the scientific name, Momordica charantia, or bitter melon, is a tropical vine closely related to zucchini, cucumber, squash, and pumpkin. Most of the Asian cuisines include this in their meal. It is considered a staple food that is packed with nutrients and antioxidants. 

Many studies suggest that bitter melon can help lower the blood sugar level and improve the secretion of insulin. This hormone is responsible for maintaining the blood sugar level stable.

If you want to include bitter melon in your daily routine but you are already taking insulin to manage your blood sugar levels, then make sure to consult your healthcare professional beforehand and take the required suggestion from them. It is so that you don't see a sudden depletion in your blood sugar levels. 

Animal research also suggests that bitter melon might help to lower the triglyceride and bad cholesterol (LDL) level. However, studies on humans are not yet done to confirm this theory. 

Concluding, bitter melon is an ayurvedic spice that helps lower blood sugar levels and boosts insulin secretion. It also helps to decrease the LDL or bad cholesterol in the body. However, more research is required on this to confirm the theory on human application.

Cardamom

Elettaria cardamomum the scientific name of cardamom. Cardamom, also known as the "queen of all spices," is a part of the household and Ayurveda for a long time. 

Studies have shown that cardamom might help to reduce blood pressure in people with increased or elevated levels. But, not just cardamom, even cardamom oils are very beneficial. Inhaling cardamom oil can help to breathe or open your clogged nostrils. 

According to the test-tube and animal research, cardamom has shown excellent results in protecting the body against Helicobacter pylori bacteria, which is the leading cause of stomach ulcers. Not just it, it may also help to reduce the size of gastric ulcers by 50 percent or sometimes can even eradicate it. 

However, as we have seen before, the research on humans is still pending, which needs to be done to come to solid conclusions. 

Collectively, Cardamom spice is used both in food and as medicine that helps to lower blood pressure, improve breathing and help to heal stomach ulcers. Well, nothing concrete has been found about its effect on humans; research is needed to find out about it. 

Manjistha

Rubia cordifolia, often known as Indian madder or common madder, is commonly called Manjistha. It is a vine leaf that is shaped like a heart and has a bright red root. Usually, the root is the actual manjistha that is used for its medicinal properties. It is grown in mountain regions. 

It has exceptional cooling properties that help cool and purifies the blood, which works on the blood and plasma. However, it is very dry and pungent in quality. Manjistha works wonders if you want to balance your pitta (dosha that is associated with fire and water). With pitta imbalance, you might see issues such as feeling dehydrated or hot every time, odor, inflammation, hyperacidity, oily skin, rosacea, hives/ rashes, anger, impatience, and irritability can happen. 

According to studies, it is perfect for inflammation and helps to clear acne. Not just it, manjistha helps to regulate liver and kidney functions. 

Conclusively, it is an ayurvedic spice that is the root of a plant. It helps in regulating liver and kidney functions and works wonders as an anti-inflammatory.  

Shatavari

Shatavari or Asparagus racemosus is from the asparagus family, and it is commonly used in India, Himalayas, and northern Australia. It is known as an adaptogen herb grown for its medicinal uses. 

It is an excellent home remedy for issues related to reproductive organs such as periods, fertility, and menopause. The funny meaning of Shatavari means that "she who has 100 husbands." Well, we don't know about husbands, but it does have 100+ medicinal properties. According to researches, it is considered one of the best ayurvedic herbs. From ancient times, it is being used for the wellness of women during their reproductive health issues. 

A study in 2018 was published, which said that they found some considerable evidence that this herb could even help with PCOS issues. 

If you want to take this herb for your reproductive issues, then it's better to consult your doctor before including it in your diet-- if you are already under medication for the problem. If approved by your physician, then it available in the market in powder form, which you can consume by mixing in some water or milk.

Finally, Shatavari is a herb that is majorly found in the Himalayan region. It is very helpful in resolving women's reproductive problems such as periods, menopause, or fertility. Researches have even shown evidence about its effect on PCOS issues. 

Carrom- Best for Digestion


Carrom or Trachyspermum Ammi(scientific name) is an annually grown herb. Both the leaves and the seeds of this herb are consumed. Ajwain, as it is called in an Indian household, is an excellent home remedy for digestion. It is one of the Ayurvedic spice that comes with tons of health benefits. Carrom is used in households both as a medicinal herb and a spice that adds extra flavor and nutrition to food. 

Ajwain is a member of the Apiaceae family and is also known as bishop weed. It is related to carrot, coriander, cumin, star anise, and asafoetida. Not just in India, the Ancient Egyptian civilization also used carrom seeds and leaves as a medicine as well as in their cuisines. 

According to traditional Ayurvedic medicine, it is well-known to cure asthma, persistent cough, flatulence, and most importantly, indigestion. Carrom consists of compounds of thymol and carvacrol, which are rich in antibacterial and antifungal properties. It is even stated that the carrom seed ignites the digestive fire and improves the digestion system.

Ajwain is used to balance the Kapha and Vata doshas and improve the Pitta dosha. Studies have also shown that it might help lower cholesterol, triglyceride levels and even prevent heart diseases. When used in a considerable amount regularly, it might also help in reducing blood pressure and hypertension. 

Carrom seeds are mainly used as a home remedy for digestive issues, and they can also help fight peptic ulcers. It is also seen that ajwain helps to prevent cough and improve airflow. Carrom is a powerful stimulant and can effectively draw out deep-seated toxins from your body and help the body in rejuvenating.
